Early Sale Confidence

1st August 2023

The Royal Welsh Showground will once again be the place to head for on Monday, 7 th August.
The NSA Wales & Border Ram Sales Early Sale will get under way at 10.30am, with around 260
top quality rams to choose from. Last year’s Early Sale saw a top price of 1700 guineas for a
Charollais ram from WC & RL Bowen, Haverfordwest.
Buyers will have confidence in purchasing quality veterinary inspected rams, particularly for
their early lambing flocks. And clearly the organizers know their sheep, given some of the
success at this year’s Royal Welsh Show and other events.
NSA Wales & Border Ram Sales committee member, Arwyn Thomas, together with his wife,
Jane took the Royal Welsh Interbreed Group of 3 with a home bred team of Charollais. The two
lambs were both by Arbryn Attila. Arwyn also judged the Charollais championships at the Royal
Highland Show this year.
Meanwhile former committee chair, John Owen and his wife, Philippa, took the Kerry Hill 2023
National Champion with their yearling ewe at the Royal Welsh Show on the Monday. He also
presented the award to the champion Kerry Hill Young Handler,.
Committee member, Elfyn Owen of Llanrwst, had a lot to celebrate. He took the Reserve Male
Champion with his Cernyw Blue Faced Leicester and also the Ethwyn Thompson Perpetual
Memorial Cup, awarded for the best Welsh breed fleece.
Elfyn was also awarded Fellowship of the Royal Agricultural Societies.
